Process for graphics cards

Graphics cards have a slightly different process for installing drivers.

  1. Get the new driver ready to install
  2. Set your current driver to "Standard Display Adapter VGA" (see below)
  3. Power off the computer, and install the new card (if any), then reboot
  4. Windows will detect the new hardware (if any) and you will install your new driver by clicking on "Have Disk" and choosing your disk or location on the hard drive where the new driver sits.

Choosing "Standard Display Adapter VGA" (from #2 above)

  1. Open Control Panel

  2. Double click on "Display"

  3. Click "Settings" tab

  4. Click "Advanced" button

  5. Choose "Adapter" tab

  6. Click "Change" button

  7. Wizard opens; Click "Next"

  8. Choose radio button "Display a list..."

  9. Click "Next"

  10. Choose radio button "Show all hardware"

  11. In the small left window, choose "(Standard display types)"

  12. In the small right window, choose "Standard Display Adapter (VGA)"

  13. Click "Next"

  14. At the warning, choose "Yes"

  15. Follow the remaining instructions, and restart the computer.
